Srinagar (Garhwal), February 13, 2026. The Legal Services and Assistance Center was inaugurated on Friday at the Birla Campus of Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna Garhwal University. On this occasion, Civil Judge Alka, Junior Division of the District Legal Services Authority, Pauri, formally inaugurated the Legal Services and Assistance Center. On this occasion, Garhwal University’s Dean of Student Welfare, Prof. OP Gusain, stated that this center, established under the auspices of the District Legal Services Authority, will prove to be an important initiative for students. He added that the center will continue to conduct legal awareness programs from time to time. Civil Judge Alka elaborated on the growing challenges of cybercrime, awareness of cyber laws, and the importance of digital security. She urged students to be vigilant against online fraud, fake links, OTP fraud, and social media misuse. She also highlighted the importance of Lok Adalats. Chief Controller Prof. Deepak Kumar urged students to use digital platforms responsibly and contact the Cyber Cell in case of any problems. Advocate Pramesh Chandra Joshi, on the occasion, explained the free legal aid, counseling, and grievance redressal process available to students through the Cyber Cell and urged students to be aware of their rights. Nodal Officer Dr. Anu Rahi provided detailed information to students about the Cyber Cell’s purpose, use, and process for obtaining assistance. She explained that the center will provide free legal guidance, complaint registration, and technical support to students. Dr. Narendra, Security Officer Hem Joshi, APO Aparna Awasthi, Advocate Anoop Panthri, along with university students, were present at the event. Priyanka Roy, a technical volunteer at the center, and Deepshikha, a representative of the Cyber Cell, briefed students on various types of cybercrimes, including phishing, hacking, digital financial fraud, and online harassment. Manoj Kumar from the CIU highlighted the technical and investigative aspects.
